Following the Grain

24" x 13" x 3" Following the Grain was the first piece I did on a slice of a burl of California Buckeye. I love that it includes a branch. I was enthralled by the grain in the wood, and wanted to show it off in a mosaic way, instead of just coating it with polyurethane. I started by using seed beads to follow the grain. There were sections that had different colors and I used different colored glass in those areas. Everytime there was a change in color or grain, I changed what I did with it, adding glass buttons, different kinds of beads, and glass, and millefiori. The title explains just what I was doing. I left the wholes and textures of the burl alone. I think they add to the beauty of the wood.
