I was inspired to try my hand at Ichibana (the Japanses art of flower arrangement) by the beautiful arrangements that two close relatives were making. The big difference is that I wanted to do my ichibana in glass, instead of flowers. I repurposed some vases I found and started to create Crimson Blooms. As I was creating and arranging my flowers, the illness of one of these favorite people caused me to rethink what I was doing. I wanted some of the elements represented - heaven, earth, and man, but I also wanted to express the cycle of life. We are born like the buds of the flower, grow to maturity, and then wither and die. But beauty still remains all around us. 12" x 20"
